OUR STORY
Read how the Lord is working at Christ the King Catholic School
On Sunday, October 22, scholars of the Christus Rex Schola Cantorum made a pilgrimage to Omaha, singing for Mass at St. Cecilia Cathedral, the only cathedral in the United States under the patronage of St. Cecilia, the patron saint of musicians. Built in the Spanish Renaissance Revival style, it is a stunningly beautiful church that inspired our scholars and their families. The choristers sang “For the Beauty of the Earth” on their own as a prelude before Mass, and together with the excellent Cathedral Choir, they sang the Spanish song “Esta es cena de amor llena” (This is the Supper Full of Love”) by the 16th c. native Mayan and Guatemalan composer Tomás Pascual. The choristers were in awe of the space, the organ and the cathedral choir, a valuable formative experience for them. The Mass was recorded and can be viewed here: The Mass Following Mass, the scholars were treated to a demonstration of the world-class organ and learned how to pump the bellows that provide wind for the organ. Then all headed to the renowned Henry Doorly Zoo for a fun afternoon before heading back home. Thank you to the dedicated scholars and their families! Truth, Goodness and Beauty were abundant throughout the blessed day.
