LETTER FROM THE PASTOR AND THE PRINCIPAL
Dear Knights of Christ the King,
After much consideration, prayer, and extensive consultation with stakeholders inside and outside our community, we have decided that Christ the King Catholic School will be closing its doors for good at the end of the spring semester.
This was a very difficult decision to make. The reason for this is that we cannot afford to fund private Catholic education. Our attempts this year to fundraise within our community and beyond provided an outpouring of generous assistance, including from our own families who committed to faithfully making their tuition payments and covering the outstanding debts of the school. Additionally, the Archdiocese has provided extensive levels of financial support over the years, most of all during this current academic year. We would like to extend our gratitude to those who helped us secure monetary and in-kind donations from the wider community. God reward you all!
As incredible as this generosity has been, unfortunately, it was not enough to cover our financial needs. Moreover, Christ the King School has been subsidized by outside donors for many years. This path is no longer sustainable.
In the coming months, we will dedicate a significant portion of our time to assisting you, our families, with this transition, and providing you with other options for continuing your child’s Catholic education. With the help of the Archdiocese, we will help those families who wish to enroll in a neighboring Catholic school to do so, and the CEF scholarships will follow our scholars to other Archdiocesan Catholic schools.
Additionally, we are exploring our options of negotiating a parish subsidy for active parishioners of Christ the King and Blessed Sacrament who attend other Catholic schools in Wyandotte County. Those who already enrolled for the 2024-2025 school year will receive a full refund of their enrollment fees. Finally, we will assist our outstanding faculty and staff with finding new employment opportunities. More information and resources will be available after Spring Break.
Thank you to the hard-working members of our school leadership and faculty who have poured their hearts and souls into the mission of this school. You have been a great source of consolation and encouragement throughout these years, and demonstrate the virtues we want our children to imitate. Our successes have been the result of your competence, sincerity, and prayerfulness.
We extend our deep gratitude to the committed families who have labored tirelessly to support Christ the King. Thank you for your good example and faithful care of these scholars entrusted to us.
Finally, thank you to the boys and girls of Christ the King who have been such eager participants in the beautiful life of our school. Your joy, enthusiasm, and growth in learning and faith have been marvelous to witness and have made it all worthwhile. We will miss your presence here tremendously.
We know that this is heartbreaking news. Our hearts are broken, too. We pledge to work through these transitions together. Remember that God's grace is abundant, particularly in times of suffering and hardship. We hope that as a community we will be able to come together in these final months of Christ the King School history to celebrate the good things accomplished here in all its decades of service to the kingdom of God, and give our King the glory.
Blessed Miguel Pro, pray for us.
Sincerely yours in Christ,
Father Nick Blaha, pastor, and Alex Weibel, principal
